CAREER PATH: Follow Your Intuition

by Anne M. Berg

When I attended St. Catherine University, a long time ago, I majored in English and minored in graphic design. Somehow I knew my best bet would be to study what I enjoyed most. Ever since I was a kid and my parents gave me my first book of poetry, I had an instant love of language. My high school English and art classes were easy for me. So were the science and math classes that involved spatial relationships, like physical science and geometry. I was all in, as a big-picture, right-brain thinker from very early on.

Unfortunately, some of us follow the path we think will yield the highest income. We don’t follow our passions, but rather our purse. We chart a course leading to wealth, rather than a career that feeds our souls for decades to come. Is there a way to be certain about which course to take?

Of course, I wasn’t sure where my career would take me. And I never imagined being an entrepreneur. I simply trusted my intuition. And therein lies the key to success. Trust your gut. Follow your heart. Feed your soul. It may sound trite, but from my own vantage point, there’s no better way to assure enduring happiness.
